Resumo
Objetivo - Estudar em Portugal (a) se a satisfação com a avaliação de desempenho (AD) difere conforme o setor onde os trabalhadores desempenham as suas funções (privado versus público), e (b) se a relação entre a percepção dos trabalhadores da utilidade e precisão do processo de avaliação de desempenho (PAD) e a satisfação com o resultado da sua última AD é mediada pela sua satisfação com o PAD.
Referencial teórico - A AD tem vindo a ocupar um lugar de destaque nas organizações, porque só através da mesma é possível medir as competências dos seus trabalhadores e a forma como contribuem para alcançar o sucesso organizacional, tanto qualitativa como quantitativamente.
Metodologia - Oitocentos e sessenta e seis profissionais dos setores público e privado participaram neste estudo. Os dados foram recolhidos utilizando dois questionários multi-itens e duas escalas de um item.
Resultados - Os resultados revelaram que os funcionários do setor privado mostraram níveis de satisfação com as suas AD mais elevados do que os do setor público. Além disso, os resultados indicaram que a utilidade e precisão do PAD tinha uma relação significativa e positiva com a satisfação dos funcionários com a sua última AD, e esta relação foi parcialmente mediada pela satisfação com o PAD, tanto no setor público como no privado.
Implicações práticas e sociais da pesquisa - Independentemente do setor de atividade, é fundamental que o PAD seja útil e preciso; caso contrário, é desacreditado, o que o impede de cumprir o seu objetivo e contribui para aumentar os níveis de insatisfação dos trabalhadores.
Contribuições - Este estudo clarificou as diferenças que podem surgir em relação à satisfação com as AD entre os setores público e privado portugueses. Além disso, este é o primeiro estudo nacional ou internacional a analisar as referidas construções de uma forma integrada.
